Role Outline/Responsibilities:

Client Overview:

As part of the Responsible Designer for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, our Client provides Engineering Design support for the Balance of the Nuclear Island (BNI).

This role is a member of a large integrated team seconded into Client team focused on providing high quality design, engineering knowledge & expertise.

Assignment Scope:

The Electrical Layout Engineer assists both the electrical layout and building layout coordinator by carrying out design work of the electrical layout engineering for one of the buildings of the Nuclear Island.

Main Activities:

Electrical layout engineering: 

  • Analyses and verifies the technical consistency of any input data received for the electrical layout within buildings (lists of consumers, list of boxes and cabinets, list of cables, list of instrumentation, etc.)
  • Carries out electrical layout engineering and is proactive in optimising the installation:

– Defines the distribution of the main and secondary cable trays

– Positions and installs the electrical equipment such as; cabinets, transformers and boxes

– Installs the instrumentation equipment

  • Produces associated technical reports
  • Carries out change impact analysis on any electrical modifications in the building
  • Manages electrical interfaces with other teams to ensure design consistency across buildings
  • Interfaces with electrical contracts

– Provides input data as required when requested from contract teams

– Reviews input data provided by the contract teams

Monitoring the progress and management of changes:

  • Manages and monitors changes requested by the various engineering teams
  • Anticipates and raises alerts on open technical points
  • Regularly carries out layout engineering reviews (with all the engineering teams involved)
  • Prepares a regular status report on the model in the light of the latest input data

Key Tasks:

– Core activity being leading electrical handover to the contractor

– Cable tray capacity calculation using in house software (Dedale) – using an evolving cable list as input

– Coordinating & reviewing electrical equipment input data updates

– Electrical design maturity review preparation

– Piloting electrical design changes

– Managing implementation of design changes in the 3D model (PDMS)

Business Travel: Ability to attend occasional meetings in France

Key Relationships:

The Electrical Layout Engineer reports to the Group Leader of the building.

They work collaboratively with the electrical layout coordinator, building layout coordinator, layout engineers and system engineers.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Engineering degree, preferably Electrical but Mechanical will also be considered
  • 8 to 10 years’ experience delivering a similar role
  • Experience of layout engineering
  • Good knowledge and understanding of electrical layout rules
  • Knowledge of how a PWR operate
  • Knowledge of PDMS and Navisworks software (ability to navigate through the system)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team as well as on own initiative
  • Results focused with the ability to meet commitments & deadlines
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • Ability to identify continuous improvements
  • Fluent in English – written & verbal

Desirable:

  • Experience in previous EPR or other nuclear projects
  • Experience of working in a fast pace engineering project environment
  • French language skills – written & verbal

Software & Tools:

  • Navisworks • PDMS • MS Office & Outlook

Security Clearance:

  • BPSS level clearance required
